Miracles, Menorahs, and Meaningful Moments: Preparing for Chanukah!

December is here, and so is the joy of Kislev! As we enter the Jewish month of Kislev, we know that Chanukah is on its way! We’ve been having so much fun learning about the story of the holy Beis Hamikdash (Temple) in Israel. We’ve discovered how Jewish people from all over came to celebrate and pray to God in this beautiful space. We also learned how sad it must have been when the "mean guys" came to destroy it.

But we’re also learning about miracles—big and small—and how God continues to make miracles for us every day! We’ve been paying attention to the little things and recognizing them: babies being born, families able to practice Judaism freely, and staying safe and healthy every day are just a few examples.

Our Chanukah shop has been a blast! We “sold” menorahs, latkes, and sufganiyot (doughnuts).

We painted a huge tape-resist menorah and created another one using tiny dots in the pointillism technique.

We also had so much fun peeling potatoes and making latkes! We explored how oil and water don’t mix.

We enjoyed play doh with candles and Chanukah items and had a blast spinning the dreidels.

Our letter this week was Gg! We used our fingers to create grapes on our letter Gg. In Hebrew, we focused on the letter Zayin (zayin zipper) and had fun practicing with real zippers.

Picture Day was a big hit! Everyone enjoyed dressing up and giving their best smiles—we can’t wait to see the final photos!

We ended our week with a schoolwide Shabbos party, challah baking, and Animaly, where we met a new animal friend.
